I suffered with anxiety and panic attacks for most of my life. I always just figured that it was part of who I was and that I would just have to deal with it for the rest of my life. That is until I decided that there had to be a better way to live. With that in mind, I set out trying to find a solution. It’s taken a lot of work on my part but I can honestly tell you that I am now more at peace than I ever have and I haven’t had a panic attack in over 2 years. So, I thought I’d share with you some ways you can start to move past your anxiety.
Know what you want from your life. Really take the time to recognize what you value and what’s truly important to you. You need to know what you want so you’re not always trying to please other people, trying to fulfill their expectations.
Let go of your fear of speaking up. Once you get clear about what’s important to you, stand up for your beliefs. Not everyone is going to agree with you or even like what you have to say. And that’s okay. When people say something critical towards you, it’s not about you. It might be directed at you, but it’s not about you. That person is spewing off things that they really think about themselves. Remember that we are a reflection of what we believe about ourselves.
Forgive yourself. For so long you have been beating yourself up, telling yourself that you’re not good enough, or smart enough, or pretty enough, or rich enough. A lot of this comes from feelings of guilt, that somewhere along the way you screwed up. Here’s the thing. You are not a screw-up. Forgive yourself for everything you’ve ever beaten yourself up over.
Listen to your gut. Your gut instinct, your intuition, your inner voice, whatever you call it, doesn’t lie. Too many times we’re afraid to make a decision because we don’t want to disappoint other people. But the only person that you need to keep happy is you. You can’t control what other people think nor should you even try. Listen to what your gut is telling you. It’s always right.
Anxiety can be a scary thing, sometimes debilitating for some people. But just know that you don’t need to live like that. You are in control of your own life and you can live the life you always dreamed of.
